Premiere Vision Autumn/Winter 2016 print trend predictions Premiere Vision Autumn/Winter 2016 print trend predictions ..

Normally I get to go to Premiere Vision as part of my job to do trend research and see the textile studios' new collections. I absolutely love it- it's great for networking with other designer/fashion professionals and it really helps me get my head around the trends of the coming seasons. Unfortunately this year I moved to work in menswear and this meant I could not go to PV as my current company sends only shape designers not graphic designers. To say I was gutted about this is an understatement as Premiere Vision is, in a professional capacity, the highlight of my year.

In January, at the last PV event I attended, I was given a press pass after someone read my previous blog post reviewing the Premiere Vision print trends. This allowed me to take photos at the event and do a more thorough review(if you didn't see it originally you check it out here: http://textilecandy.blogspot.be/2015/02/premiere-vision-springsummer-2016.html). After this Premiere Vision post, regrettably my blogging went downhill, became less frequent and I think you could definitely tell that I was becoming both frustrated and disenchanted with putting so much effort into writing a blog and creating moodboards that very few people saw. I very nearly quit blogging altogether. Then I reminded myself that I love writing. I love researching beautiful printed textiles. I love hearing peoples' trend predictions, learning the reasoning behind them and seeing them come to fruition. Above all else I love making fashion relevant to those who aren't interested in it and view it as unnecessary.

One of my favourite parts of the Premiere Vision events is attending the WGSN trend seminars. Although I do have a WGSN account and can view their trend predictions online, hearing the trend forecasters present and explain the background and inspiration for each new trend is incomparable to reading a brief trend outline on the internet.

So, despite not having been to the most recent Premiere Vision event, I have been able to look at the trend predictions for Autumn/Winter 2016 on the WGSN website and have decided to create some trend prediction boards anyway.

I have changed some of the trend names and have left out an 'old masters florals' trend as it isn't one I am in support of, but the majority of the trend names are exactly the same. That's it for the colour trends of Spring/Summer 2016. As you can see above there's quite a huge range on next season's colour palette- black, white and neutrals are still present and popular but bright colours are back(finally!!!) Hopefully I will have another trend post done by the end of the week, although my laptop seems to be fighting against me at the moment.

Holiday 2015 Stocking Stuffers

It's that time of year again. It's the season of indulging in holiday meals (hello, mashed potatoes!), sharing gifts with loved ones, attending holiday parties, and enjoying quality time with friends and family. When it comes to holiday gifts, that old saying that the best gifts come in small packages rings true. I love stylish accessories, beauty products, and jewelry as stocking stuffers because they allow the recipient to add a special finishing touch to their look. Whether it's a furry pom pom bag charm, a personalized pendant, or an animal print scarf, there are endless gifts that exude personality and charm (like this cute cat mug for $20) without draining your wallet. Below are ten of my favorite stocking stuffers under $130 plus other options under $35.

FANTASIA PICNIC / SITTING FOR A PAINTING

A couple of days ago Dag and I went for a late afternoon park picnic. It also served as a set up for a future painting. It will part of a series of paintings of performers. But more on that once the series is finished and the artist has gotten to present her work by herself first.

First of all I just have to say that  IT IS FINALLY WARM.

Tinker's rainbow hair.

Fiona, the milliner.

Sandy.

Pepper and her hairpiece.

Mimi and her girls.

And me and my little boy.

Who found a new friend.

Picnic patterns.

The artist memorizing.
Petra's paintings are always full of colours and patterns and it will be interesting to see how this eventually turns out!

I SEE TALL, DARK ART! - TABULALAND

More art posts coming up!
-because we need more art in our lives, more art on our walls, and art should be easily accessible.

Those were the thoughts of two of my friends, comic artist, illustrator and gallerist Aiju Salminen and producer Saara Konttinen, who thus opened up their own gallery. Online. They wanted to make a gallery with art by contemporary artists, a gallery that would not be the kind that you might dread stepping into, but accessible by anyone anywhere and with art that could be described as strange and fun and easy to approach. So Tabulaland was born. I’ve said it before, I love it when I see talented people I know have a great idea and are able to make it happen just the way they want it!

So what to put on my wall then? Let's look at a few different works.

Ilkka Luttinen: Graveyeard, oil on canvas (300x197cm)

Sami Viljanto: What Would George Lazenby Do? Poster.

Suvi Aarnio: Brainwashed. Stichwork.

Katri Sipiläinen: Snall as Blood, water-colour on paper.

Tabulaland is both an online gallery and art store with the occasional real life pop-up exhibition here and there, that exhibits and sells art by both underground artist and already well established ones. The gallery covers pieces from big paintings to sketches and tattoo flash art. Prices in the shop ranges from 20 euros to over 8k, so there is indeed something for everyone.

I don't own any pieces from Tabulaland but I do have the I See tall, Dark Art! -Tabulaland T-shirt made by Aiju.

The store and gallery has been up and running for about two months now and an international version of the site (in English) will be available soon.

In honour of the launch of the international site being just around the corner I have the chance to give away a signed art print of Saara Salmi’s limited edition work done exclusively for Tabulaland; the Revelation of Paula!

To enter the give away visit Tabulaland.com  and leave me a comment on this post, telling me which piece from Tabulaland you would like to have on your wall. Or which piece is your favourite -  when it comes to art I often find I like many pieces without necessarily being able to picture me having it on my own walls or in the house.

Note that if you do not have a site or account linked trough your signature you must be sure to leave me your contact details so I can readh you.
I will draw the winner randomly on the last of this month; November 30!

(On a side note, my skirt is made by me and the shiny heart shoes are by Frollein von Sofa).

STENCILED

Showgirl by Nadja Mikkilä 2014, 40x50cm, acrylic paint on canvas

My friend Nadja has once more honoured me as motif in her series of stencil paintings.
This one is inspired by images from my Chloris shoot with Asko, who also happens to be her fiancé (yes they are a true power duo!). I appeared in one of Nadja's earlier stencil work last year, which you can see here, for example.

EACH OTHER

Each other from kokooma on Vimeo.

You know I love animations, but I haven't really browsed or scouted such in a quite long time! This one was a little odd (like many artsy animations tend to be). But very fine nonetheless.  I like how it was drawn.

ARTIST AND MODEL

I got to pose next to the painting Nadja did of me last year.
Her stencils are now featured at Mbar in downtown Helsinki.

The pic is from Nadja's art blog.

SHAE DETAR

Lately I've been admiring the art work and fashion photography of Shae DeTar.

Soft and dreamy, dear I say a bit hipster and also with a touch if pre raphaelite- as well as some Klimt influences in some pieces.

WEIRD AND PRETTY; PRETTY WEIRD

I am a sucker for fancy books with fine pictures. It's not only one or twice I by accident pop by the big bookstore and arrive home with a bag heavy of art deco, vintage ads or fashion history.

My latest add of picture books is one with strange, funny and scary photomontage postcards form the early 1900's. Surrealism before the actual term!

A few of these -or, similar- were familiar from the wonderful world of the internet already but most were such I haven't seen before. Some are quite cute and pretty but some are just so weird it's awsome.

I mean who wouldn't be super happy to receive a card with a terrified baby being lifted by balloons on? There's also one with a frightened kid and a super scary doll in a corner.

Or this man coming to -or still strong in- faith while about to drown in the ocean?

No? What a about this one here then? Two lovely girls and a puppy. It says 'Today a rose, tomorrow...' Pretty sad actually.

These baby kale heads might give some laughs though. Or the mixture of fish and obnoxious child.
Not that it actually is that weird sending weird stuff (cards) to each other. The same we send each other nowadays too, posting weird stuff on Facebook. Or, I don't know about you, but that's what I do at least :)

Here are some cat ladies.

And spider men.

A dude in an egg.

Plus a little pop art before pop art! Sort of.

I like these collages of stamps, photos and pieces of fabric. Looks like something out of Etsy, heh.

The book is in Finnish; "Ihme ja Kumma".
